The Air Jordan 18 basketball shoe was the last one that Michael would wear while being a professional basketball player in the NBA. The AJ 18, released in 2003 were popular if only for the fact that they had a special significance with the again retiring Michael Jordan.
Jordan was still playing for the Wizards but his body was not as young as it used to be and had continual problems with his knees having issues. His last game was on April 16th 2003, and although many would have liked to see a win in that game, the Wizards lost to the 76ers and Michael was official done for good this time.
This time the Air Jordan 18 had a new designer working on it named Tate Kuerbis. Tate was a long time member of the Jordan team and gave a wonderful new look to the Jordan line. The Formula one race cars were part of the inspiration for the new look of the AJ18 and even had the race car driving shoes appeal to the rubber heel. But Jordan shoes are also known for their elegance as well, and the classy look was adopted from an italian dress shoe design.
The original Jordan 18 shoes came with a special surprise as well, having a number 18 cut out with foil and a nice little handle for the box itself. The price was $25 less than the previous AJ 17's, and went for $175.00.
