On February 9th 2002, the Air Jordan 17 shoe was released to the public with great anticipation. Jordan had just come back to the NBA for the second time and his fans could not wait for another great season as he played for the Wizards in Washington.
The style of the AJ17 was different than the others and was said to be inspired by 3 different things, including the elegance and supreme quality of an Aston Martin, the sweet smooth lines of a jazz artist playing a sax solo, and a combination of Air Jordans from the past and the legacy it held.
Just like the Air Jordan 16 shoes before them, the AJ 17's had the removable shroud shoe cover that covered the middle of the shoe and gave you the option for the formal look or the uncovered look, making the laces visible.
The Jordan 17 shoes also came with an embossed Jumpman logo carrying case made out of metal. So what happened to that good ole fashioned shoe box? Well Nike decided to spice it up a little bit and make the shoes a little more exclusive to those Jordan fans and avid collectors. Also included was a collectors CD in the lid of the box.
Of course all of these fancy additions to the Jordan 17 made the price go up and that made a lot of people upset. Originally a pair of Jordan 17 shoes would cost you $200, which just boggled the minds of every day passers by at seeing the price tag.
Eventually, Nike swallowed their pride and offered the shoes for $40 less and made them the same price as their predecessors the Jordan 16.
