The Air Jordan 4's came out in 1989, during a year in which Michael Jordan was explosive on the basketball court and received all kinds of awards for his great accomplishments. Everyone wanted a pair of the new air Jordans and they sold out in a few hours when they first came out.

This shoe was hugely popular even when the retro versions were made in 2004 through 2006. In fact, the retro Jordan 4 shoes have been one of the hottest selling retro shoes in the Air Jordan line so far.

The straps on the sides of these shoes were to help ankle support. After all, no one needed Michael Jordan getting hurt because of his shoes so these made sure the super stars ankles were getting as much protection as they needed.

Even though Michael did not win a championship while wearing the Jordan 4 shoes, he did have an amazing season, averaging 32 points per game and lighting up the court with his agile speed.

Spike Lee was a huge fan of these shoes and the TV commercials for the Jordan 4 continued to run for a good while.   The retros that came out in 1999 were a huge success and sold out very quickly.  Not all of the Jordan retro shoes sold like the Air Jordan IV.   Nike also released some special models of the Jordan 4 called "Thunder" and "Lightning" and some pairs sold for $500.   And even though some people were upset about how high the prices were, the shoes still sold out.  People must really love their Air Jordan IV's.
